"Each time when I watch the news, I see plenty of people in difficult circumstances. It makes me feel sad. Many times I said to myself: “If only, I could help these unfortunate people”. That thought returned more than once. It even kept me awake at night. Honestly, I did not know what to do. Then I had a moment of clarity. Was it really necessary to come up with huge actions? Every act of generosity matters, or? Maybe I could find a way to contribute to the well-being of my environment.
It is about the willingness to do something meaningful. I am not superman, but I can be courageous and show the world that I care. Many people say that they want to help, but on the long run, they do not even take action. I do not want to be like them. The seed to support was planted in my heart. I was wondering how I could deliver something positive. I had no clue yet, what that would be in practice. I went upstairs to clean up my room. My wardrobe was full of clothes that I did not need anymore.
Some clothes remind me of good times. I treasure the memories. I do not wear all my clothes anymore, but it is hard to throw them away. The size does not fit anymore, or the colour does not represent my current taste. It is amazing to see how we change throughout a lifetime. Our clothes reflect that a little bit. Suddenly I got an idea. I thought of my desire to help others. Giving my unwanted clothes away to an organisation that collects the clothes and sells them, could be something to consider. The money collected from the sales could benefit charity.
I am sure that my old clothes will fit somebody. Maybe this person even likes my clothes. Who knows? It feels good. In fact, I get body chills. You should see my eyes. They express joy. I spent the whole afternoon cleaning up my wardrobe. I removed the old pieces. I believe that we can demonstrate in our own way that generosity still counts. We are connected to each other. It gives me a warm feeling to know that I can make someone else happy. I just watched myself in the mirror. My smile looks good on me. I feel like Superman now."

It was the end of August. The summer period was almost over. The school would start soon. A little boy was sleeping. Right before the school start, the little boy always had a special dream. His bed was comfortable. He had a good home: loving parents, healthy food and beautiful clothes. A smile on his face reflected his happiness. Suddenly a dream entered his open window. It found its way to his heart. The dream was activated.
The little boy went to school. There was a new child in the school. The girl looked sad and alone. The little boy had a good heart and decided to talk to her. He asked her why she was so sad. She replied that she had no nice clothes to wear. She worried that the other children would never play with her. Her name was Charity. The little boy felt bad for Charity and gave her a hug. A smile appeared on Charity’s face. In the evening the little boy went home. He explained to his mother what happened that day. His mother felt bad for Charity. The little boy asked if they could support the girl. The mother smiled and answered with a most loving voice. She said that she heard about an organization called ICollectClothes. Maybe this could be a good solution. She googled the organization and found their website: iCollectClothes.
The next morning the mother of the little boy decided to call ICollectClothes. The business revealed that it collects unwanted clothes and shoes, sells them and donates the money to charities. The mother called her friends to bring their unwanted clothes and shoes to ICollectClothes. The little boy woke up. It was time to go to school. At school, he met a girl in beautiful clothes. Her name was Charity. She smiled happily.

Many of you may wonder why clothing collections are so important and crucial for the charities, while others only ask for financial funding… There are many reasons why clothing donations are important and benefit not only charities, but for other people, as well as yourself… Here are some of the main reasons why iCollect Clothes does what it does and loves it so much!
- Helps people who cannot afford clothes
Charities are non-profit organisations, however in order to provide help for others, they need funding. Therefore the clothing which you donate is turned into the vital funds for the charities, so you help the charity, the people who seek help from the charities and someone out there who will buy your preloved clothing. We know that second hand clothing is sold at much lower prices, which gives the opportunity for the less fortune people to buy clothing at an affordable price.
- Helps Disaster Victims
Some of the clothing is shipped abroad to poorer countries, where the clothing benefits diseased, disaster and/or war zone victims. Some of the clothing is shipped to countries such as Ukraine, where your unwanted clothing are precious for the poor victims. This not only helps the sufferers by receiving affordable clothing, but also those who run their small businesses, which helps the country’s poverty and surviving the difficult time.
- Helps the Environment
You can simply protect the environment by donating your preloved or unwanted clothing! When people buy used clothing instead of new, fewer new clothes need to be made. This saves the resources used to create new textiles. For example, the polyester fibre production process puts a strain on the environment. Recycling clothing helps the environment in a similar way as recycling bottles, paper and cans does. iCollect Clothes also protects the environment as there is no unnecessary driving, the pollution is lowered to the minimum. We only travel to collection points on the days chosen by donators and the service is suitable for everyone. This also helps us to make the expenses as lowest as possible.
- Keeps your house organised!
We all have those few brand new clothes that we will never wear and they’re just berried at the bottom of the drawer! Donating preloved clothing will allow you to have more space for those clothes that you’ll actually wear! It can be detrimental to your emotional health. If you are ever late getting to work because you can’t find a particular article of clothing, you likely have too much clothing clutter. A good rule of thumb when deciding what to donate is if you haven’t worn the item within three months of purchase – you will never wear it.
We’d like to thank all of our iCollect Clothes donators and the ones to be! Please always remember that clothing donations provide vital funds for the charities but also have many other good reasons why donating clothes is fun, important and beneficial!
